A Solar Domestic Hot Water (SDHW) Heating
Interactive Troubleshooting Program, SDHW-PROB

What parts of the panel(s) don't look right?

The glazing (glass or plastic) cover

The collector heat absorption collector plate surface

The collector heat absorption collector plate

The collector mounting system

The collector gaskets or seals

The collector panel frame

The collector panel back side

The collector panel insulation

HELP
-- The glazing is the material that covers the front part of the collector and is typically made of glass or a plastic like material.

The collector plate surface is the material that coats the actual collector plate and is either a special black chemically deposited selective surface or a very flat black paint.

The collector plate is usually made of copper, aluminum, or steel.  Copper is, by far, the material of choice because of its superior heat conducting capabilities

The collector mounting system may consist of anything from four simple "L" mounting brackets to an elaborate mounting system including standoff pipes and cross supports.

The collector gaskets and seals can be found surrounding the glazing and the pipes entering (or leaving) the panel housing.

The collector frame is the box that houses the panel absorber, the glazing, and the insulation.

The collector panel backside is the side which faces away from the sunlight.

The collector panel insulation is between the backside of the absorber plate and the panel backside.
